The Evolution of LSU Football Gear

Derya Eren, Monique Oncale, Emily Soulier

When LSU dominated on the last game of 2017 season against Texas A&M, the player’s attire consisted of the latest technology: radio-equipped polycarbonate helmets, zoom vapor fly cleats, super-lightweight pants, and durable pads. It is easy to take for granted that the uniform and gear that players wore are the same as it has been, protect them from injuries and improve their performance at the same time. However, LSU football gear has evolved from heavy sweaters and canvas pants to modern light weight uniform enhanced with technology. This podcast explores the evolution of LSU football uniform and gear and how the transformation affects players in a perspective of safety, performance and player identification. It also includes the history of LSU football uniform, modern gear, and the future technologic advancements.
